UMISAN has developed and patented the underwater cutting method of rocks with diamond wire (rock blasting), eliminating the need for explosives and/or expansion capsules, methods used worldwide until now.
The method consists of using the diamond wire to circulate the rock to generate abrasiveness, promoting wear through friction and, consequently, the cutting. Once the rock is cut and detached, the block is hoisted and discarded in a licensed disposal area.
This method can be used to deepen waterways, whether in seas, rivers, lakes, lagoons and estuaries, as well as other situations that require underwater rock cutting.
We executed the first project in the world using this methodology for Porto Sudeste (a joint venture between Trafigura and Mubadala), aiming to deepen the Main Access Channel to the Port of Itaguai – RJ (Brazil) and allow the entry of ships with greater draft, increasing the operational efficiency and competitiveness of the region's terminals.
The project was a success, we completed the activity and reached the quota set by the client.
Distinguishing features:
Activity classified as low impact, simplifying the authorization processes at the Port, Maritime and Environmental Authorities, as well as reducing the time to obtain licenses;
Does not involve explosives, dispensing with the regulation of explosives and fire operation by the Armed Forces;
Environmentally safe method, generating less impact on the environment;
Dispenses with the need for a series of environmental monitoring equipment, such as seismographs, bubble curtains, among others normally applied when explosives and expansion capsules are used;
Does not generate seismic shock, eliminating tremors and impacts to civil structures;
Eliminates the risk of death from accidental explosion.
